How do I promote my music on TikTok?
Get the song into TikTok's sound library through your distributor, make sure creators use your official sound, post your own videos that show how to use it, seed it with many smaller creators, then boost the posts already working with Spark Ads. Track it all in TikTok for Artists.
Get your song into TikTok's sound library
Most distributors deliver releases to TikTok alongside the streaming services, which makes your song available as an official sound. TikTok has also run its own distribution and marketing service, SoundOn; check its current terms and markets before choosing it.
Ask creators to use your official sound rather than a re-upload or their own original audio. Only videos using the official sound count on your sound page and in your analytics.
TikTok for Artists
TikTok for Artists, launched in June 2025, is TikTok's dashboard for artists with a verified artist account. It shows how your songs are used — views, posts and creator engagement per track — plus post analytics and audience data, and lets you run pre-release campaigns where fans can pre-save to Spotify or Apple Music. Your team and label can be given access.
It launched in a set list of countries and has been expanding; sign in at TikTok for Artists with your TikTok account to check availability.
- 01Make sure your artist account is set up and verified.
- 02Connect TikTok for Artists to your TikTok account.
- 03Set up a pre-release campaign before your next single.
- 04Check which videos and creators drive use of your sound each week.
Make the sound easy to use
Pick the clip that suggests a format — a hook people can lip-sync, a lyric they can caption, a beat drop for a reveal — and post several examples yourself before asking anyone else. Creators copy formats more readily than they invent them.
Work with creators — and disclose it
Seeding a sound with many smaller creators in your niche usually spreads further than one large creator. If you pay or gift creators, TikTok requires them to switch on its content disclosure setting so the post is labelled as a paid partnership; undisclosed commercial posts can lose eligibility for the For You feed. Local advertising law applies too.
TikTok's Creator Marketplace was replaced by TikTok One in 2025, which is where brands and advertisers now find and brief creators.
Paid promotion: Promote and Spark Ads
Promote boosts your own videos from inside the app. Spark Ads, run in TikTok Ads Manager, boost organic posts — yours, or a creator's with their authorisation code — and keep the engagement on the original post. Boost what is already working rather than an untested video.
Where Virtual Publicist fits
Virtual Publicist keeps Collections of TikTok and dance creators grouped by size, region and style, matched to your music, so you can find the creators most likely to use your sound and pitch them directly.
The short version
- Distribute to TikTok and push creators to the official sound.
