Apple Music is only second to Spotify in the number of overall paid subscribers which means you should get on it immediately! To make it better, this streaming platform only offers paid subscriptions compared to Spotify’s free streaming!

Distributing Your Music

To claim your artist profile on Apple Music you must first send your music to a digital music distributors like CD Baby, Distrokid, or Tunecore. These services register your song and send it simultaneously to different streaming & downloading platforms so that your music can be monetized through its reach.

Although these services are not free, distribution is either charged per month, per song, or per service.

For CD Baby this comes up to 9.95$ per single and 29$ per album. Whereas Distrokid will cost 19.99 per year and add charges for ulterior services.

Claiming your profile

  1. Sign in to the Apple Music for Artists app with your Apple ID. Download the Apple Music for Artists app, or create an Apple ID.
  2. Tap Request Artist Access, and copy and paste your iTunes Store artist page link to search. To find the link to your artist page, input your artist name in the search field.
  3. Select one of your albums to ensure you are claiming the correct page. You must have the primary artist role on the album to successfully claim your artist page. If you are only a featured artist, you will not be able to claim the account.
  4. Choose your role (Artist, Manager, or Label Rep), then fill out the requested application fields to finish off the process.

Apple Music also offers “Pre-Add”, which is similar to Spotify’s “Pre-Save”. The only major difference is that on Apple Music, only albums can be pre-added, while on Spotify “Pre-Save” is available for single releases as well.

With Apple Music, you can make your own playlists (Library — Playlists — New Playlist — Add Music — Done) and ensure their appearance on your profile and search them by turning on the “Show on My Profile and in Search” function in settings. You can also share these playlists via social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat directly from the portal.
